Maharashtra Boosts Farm Loan Relief: Eligible Farmers Can Now Get Up to ₹2 Lakh

Mumbai: In a major relief for farmers, the Maharashtra government has announced significant changes to the Mahatma Phule Farm Loan Waiver Scheme, increasing the maximum financial benefit from ₹50,000 to ₹2 lakh. The decision is aimed at reducing the financial burden on farmers and extending assistance to more eligible beneficiaries.

Under the revised scheme, the government has also removed a key eligibility condition. Earlier, farmers were required to repay their 2026–27 crop loan to qualify for the incentive. With this condition now withdrawn, many farmers who were previously excluded from the scheme may become eligible for the benefit.

According to the government, beneficiaries who were eligible under the 2019 farm loan waiver scheme will continue to receive direct benefits. In addition, farmers who have repaid their agricultural loans in at least two of the last three years will also be considered eligible under the revised guidelines.

The Maharashtra government said the changes are intended to provide greater financial security to farmers facing economic challenges. The revised policy is expected to benefit thousands of farming families across the state.

Speaking on the decision, the Chief Minister stated that farm loan waivers do not make farmers wealthy, but they offer crucial relief during difficult times by reducing the burden of debt.

The announcement applies only to farmers in Maharashtra and is expected to strengthen agricultural support while encouraging financial stability in the farming sector.

Disclaimer: Farmers should verify their eligibility and application details through the official Maharashtra government notifications or the concerned agriculture and cooperative departments before applying for benefits.
