Fake AI Videos Trigger Tensions in Ujjain; Police Probe Social Media Rumours

Fake AI Videos Trigger Tensions in Ujjain; Police Probe Social Media Rumours Ujjain: Tensions erupted in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain after a dispute surrounding the removal of a portion of the historic Shahi Masjid reportedly escalated into stone-pelting and clashes with police. Authorities are now investigating the role of social media and allegedly AI-generated videos in spreading misinformation about the incident. AI-Generated Videos Under Police Scanner According to Ujjain Police, videos circulating on social media falsely showed the entire Shahi Masjid being demolished. Police said the visuals were AI-generated and created a misleading impression about what was happening at the site. The actual action involved the removal of only the portion of the mosque that falls within the alignment of a road being widened as part of preparations for the 2028 Simhastha. Police are examining the accounts that originally uploaded the videos as well as those that subsequently circulated them. How the Situation Escalated The controversy intensified after authorities began the process of removing the affected portion of the structure. Residents and members of the Muslim community gathered at the site, with some opposing the proposed removal. According to police reports, misinformation circulating online contributed to confusion among some people. The situation later turned violent, with stones allegedly being thrown at security personnel. Police used tear gas and lathi charge to disperse the crowd and restore order. Police Investigating Social Media Accounts Ujjain Police have launched an investigation into the online material that circulated before and during the unrest. More than 100 social media accounts have reportedly come under scrutiny as investigators try to trace how the misleading videos and claims were spread. Police have also taken legal action against people allegedly involved in the violence and the circulation of misinformation. Reports on September 29 said 15 people had been arrested, while multiple FIRs had been registered in connection with the incident. Road-Widening Project Behind the Dispute The dispute is linked to a road-widening project in Ujjain being undertaken ahead of the 2028 Simhastha Kumbh Mela. The portion of the Shahi Masjid that falls within the planned road alignment was being removed as part of the project. Reports said the mosque committee and members of the local Muslim community later cooperated with the administration in removing the affected portion. Authorities Urge People to Avoid Rumours Officials and community representatives have appealed to residents to avoid believing or forwarding unverified information. Authorities have also increased security in the area and are monitoring social media activity to prevent further misinformation from spreading. The incident has highlighted the potential real-world consequences of manipulated digital content. AI-generated images and videos can make false events appear authentic, particularly when they are shared rapidly without verification. Verify Before Sharing The Ujjain incident has once again raised concerns about the spread of misinformation through social media platforms. Authorities are urging people to verify videos and claims through reliable news sources or official statements before sharing them. As the police investigation continues, the origin of the allegedly fake AI videos and the role of individual social media accounts remain under scrutiny.

Sea Turns Rough in Puri: High Waves Lash Coast, Shops Washed Away; Mangala Muhana Faces Erosion Threat

Sea Turns Rough in Puri: High Waves Lash Coast, Shops Washed Away; Mangala Muhana Faces Erosion Threat Puri: The sea at Puri has turned increasingly turbulent, with strong waves repeatedly hitting the shoreline amid the recent adverse weather conditions. The rough sea has raised concerns among local residents, fishermen and beachside vendors, while parts of the coastline are facing signs of erosion. High Waves Hit Puri Beach The sea has remained rough along the Puri coast, with powerful waves reaching the beach and affecting areas close to the shoreline. Recent weather conditions associated with the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal have also led to rough marine conditions along Odisha’s coast. Reports from the area indicate that beachside temporary shops and materials have been affected by the strong waves, with some structures and goods reportedly washed away. Mangala Muhana Faces Erosion Concerns The situation has also raised concerns around Mangala Muhana, where continuous wave action is reportedly causing sand and sections of the beach edge to erode. Local fishermen and residents are closely watching the situation as further erosion could affect fishing activities and other livelihoods dependent on the coastal area. Puri has experienced coastal erosion in the past, particularly during periods of rough seas and strong wave activity. Studies of Odisha’s coastline have documented erosion around the Puri-Mangala area during severe marine conditions. Tourists Banned From Entering the Sea With the sea remaining turbulent, the Puri district administration has taken precautionary measures. Red flags have been placed at several locations along the beach and tourists have been prohibited from entering the sea for bathing. Lifeguards have also been deployed to prevent accidents. Authorities have repeatedly advised tourists and visitors to stay away from the water until conditions improve. Fishermen Advised to Remain Alert Fishermen have also been asked to avoid venturing into the sea during the period of dangerous marine conditions. Officials have advised fishermen to keep their boats, fishing nets and other equipment in safe locations. The Odisha government has also maintained heightened preparedness in view of the rough sea and adverse weather, with disaster-response teams and control rooms kept ready in vulnerable areas. Administration Monitoring the Situation The continuing wave activity has increased concern among people living and working close to the shoreline. Authorities are monitoring the coastal situation and have urged people to follow safety instructions. The recent rough-sea conditions are linked to the weather system that affected Odisha after the deep depression moved inland. Although the system has been weakening, its effects have included heavy rainfall and turbulent sea conditions. Safety Remains the Priority Residents, fishermen, vendors and tourists are advised to maintain caution near the shoreline and avoid entering the sea during high-wave conditions. Any further deterioration in coastal conditions will be closely monitored by the administration and weather authorities. With Puri’s coastline continuing to experience rough sea conditions, attention remains focused on coastal erosion, the safety of fishermen and tourists, and the protection of vulnerable beachside areas.

Deep Depression Over South Odisha Weakens Gradually; Heavy Rainfall Continues, 1,154 Evacuated in Malkangiri Bhubaneswar: The deep depression over south Odisha and adjoining areas is gradually weakening, but its impact continues to bring heavy rainfall to several parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of very heavy rainfall in Odisha on September 25, followed by heavy rainfall on September 26. Deep Depression Moving North-Northwest According to the latest weather update, the deep depression has been moving in a north-northwesterly direction. The system is expected to weaken further as it continues to move inland. The IMD had earlier reported that the system was centred over south Odisha and adjoining north coastal Andhra Pradesh, near Koraput. It was forecast to gradually weaken into a depression and continue moving north-northwestwards over the following 24 hours. Heavy Rainfall Continues Across Odisha Despite the weakening system, several parts of Odisha are still experiencing significant rainfall. The IMD has issued a very heavy rainfall warning for September 25, while heavy rainfall is expected in parts of the state on September 26. Thunderstorms, lightning and squally weather are also possible during this period. South Odisha and parts of western Odisha remain particularly vulnerable due to the continuing rainfall activity. Malkangiri Faces Difficult Situation Malkangiri has been among the districts significantly affected by the persistent rainfall. Several villages have reportedly been impacted by waterlogging and rising water levels. According to the information available from local authorities, around 58 villages have been affected, while 1,154 people have been evacuated to safer locations as a precautionary measure. The administration has been monitoring vulnerable areas and taking steps to ensure the safety of residents in areas affected by flooding and heavy rainfall. Government and Rescue Teams on Alert The Odisha government had already put disaster-response teams on standby ahead of the system’s movement across the state. The Chief Minister directed departments and district administrations to maintain a high level of preparedness, with emphasis on protecting lives and property. NDRF and Fire Services personnel, along with 33 ODRAF teams, were kept ready in vulnerable districts, while additional teams were placed on reserve. District and block-level control rooms were also made operational around the clock. Fishermen Advised to Stay Away From Sea The weather system has also affected sea conditions along the Odisha coast. The IMD reported rough to very rough seas and strong winds in coastal areas, with cautionary signals maintained at Odisha ports. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea until conditions improve. Situation Expected to Improve Gradually The IMD expects the deep depression to weaken further as it moves away from the coast. However, rainfall activity is likely to continue for another day or two in parts of Odisha. People living in low-lying and vulnerable areas are advised to remain alert, avoid flooded roads and follow instructions issued by local authorities. Residents should also rely on official IMD and district administration updates for the latest weather information. With the weather system weakening gradually, the focus now remains on managing the continuing rainfall, monitoring water levels and ensuring the safe return of evacuated residents once conditions become favourable.

Mamata Banerjee Faces EC Setback: Revisiting Indira Gandhi’s 1969 Political Crisis

Mamata Banerjee Faces EC Setback: Revisiting Indira Gandhi’s 1969 Political Crisis New Delhi/Kolkata: The Election Commission’s recent decision involving the Trinamool Congress has brought the party’s internal dispute and electoral identity into sharp focus. On September 17, the Election Commission temporarily froze the All India Trinamool Congress name and its traditional “Flowers and Grass” symbol for the upcoming by-elections, directing the rival factions to choose separate names and symbols. The development has also prompted comparisons with an earlier episode in Indian political history involving former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, whose conflict with senior Congress leaders eventually resulted in the historic Congress split of 1969. What Happened to the TMC Name and Symbol? The Election Commission said there were two rival groups within the Trinamool Congress, one led by Mamata Banerjee and another led by the rival faction. The Commission directed both groups to submit choices for temporary names and symbols for the upcoming by-elections. On September 18, the poll panel subsequently allotted separate identities to the two factions. The Mamata Banerjee-led faction was allotted the name “Mamata All India Trinamool Congress” along with the Football Player symbol, while the rival faction was allotted “Democratic Trinamool Congress” and the Envelope symbol. The arrangements are applicable to the upcoming by-elections, while the broader dispute over the party’s original name and symbol remains a matter of political and legal significance. The 1969 Congress Crisis Nearly six decades earlier, Indira Gandhi faced a major confrontation within the Congress. After becoming Prime Minister in 1966, she increasingly came into conflict with the party’s established leadership, often referred to as the Congress Syndicate. The confrontation became particularly visible during the 1969 Presidential election. The Congress organisation backed Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, while Indira Gandhi supported Vice President V. V. Giri, who contested as an independent candidate. Giri eventually defeated Reddy. The result intensified the differences between Indira Gandhi and the Congress leadership. According to historical accounts, Indira Gandhi was expelled from the party in November 1969, after which Congress formally split into two factions: Congress (Organisation) and Indira Gandhi’s Congress (Requisitionists). From Party Split to the 1971 Election The 1969 split did not end Indira Gandhi’s political career. Instead, the dispute led to a major political contest in the 1971 Lok Sabha election. Indira Gandhi campaigned under the slogan “Garibi Hatao” and sought a direct mandate for her political and economic programme. The Election Commission’s historical data records that Congress (R) won 352 of the 518 Lok Sabha seats in the 1971 election. The NCERT-based SATHEE resource records that Indira Gandhi’s Congress (R) secured about 44% of the vote and 352 seats, while Congress (O) won only 16 seats. The result significantly strengthened Indira Gandhi’s position in national politics and changed the balance of power within the Congress movement. Two Different Political Episodes The present TMC dispute and the 1969 Congress crisis are separated by decades and occurred under very different political circumstances. The Election Commission’s current action concerns the use of a party name and electoral symbol amid an internal dispute, whereas the 1969 Congress crisis involved a much broader organisational and ideological conflict within India’s then-dominant national party. Still, both episodes illustrate how disputes within major political parties can lead to questions over organisational control, party identity and electoral symbols. What Happens Next? The TMC dispute is now being closely watched ahead of the upcoming by-elections. The Election Commission has provided separate identities to the rival factions for the polls, while the political and legal contest surrounding the party’s original identity continues. The comparison with the 1969 Congress split therefore provides historical context, but the eventual political consequences of the present TMC dispute will depend on subsequent organisational, electoral and legal developments. Moody’s Raises India’s FY2026-27 GDP Growth Forecast to 7% Amid Middle East Crisis and Rising Oil Prices

Moody’s Raises India’s FY2026-27 GDP Growth Forecast to 7% Amid Middle East Crisis and Rising Oil Prices New Delhi: Despite continuing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and elevated global energy prices, India’s economic growth outlook has received a boost. Global rating agency Moody’s Ratings has raised its forecast for India’s real GDP growth in fiscal year 2026-27 to 7%, up from its earlier estimate of 6%. The upward revision comes as India continues to show resilience amid a challenging global economic environment. Moody’s assessment points to strong domestic economic activity, including investment and manufacturing, as important factors supporting growth. India Records 7.8% Growth in April-June Quarter India’s economy recorded 7.8% year-on-year growth in the April-June quarter, according to the latest reporting. Strong investment and manufacturing activity contributed to the performance, helping offset weakness in sectors such as mining and consumer services. The latest quarterly performance has strengthened expectations that domestic economic momentum can continue despite external pressures. Middle East Conflict Creates Economic Risks The revised growth forecast comes against the backdrop of an ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has created uncertainty in global energy markets. Oil prices have remained elevated, with Brent crude recently trading above $100 per barrel amid concerns over supply disruptions. For India, a major oil-importing economy, prolonged high crude prices could increase import costs and put pressure on inflation. High Oil Prices Remain a Key Concern While Moody’s has raised its growth forecast, the agency has also highlighted potential downside risks. If global energy prices remain high for an extended period, higher fuel and transportation costs could increase inflationary pressures and affect household consumption. The government could also face additional pressure for subsidies or fiscal support if energy costs remain elevated for a prolonged period. El Niño Could Add to Food Inflation Risks Another risk highlighted by Moody’s is the possibility of weather-related disruptions. A significant El Niño event could affect agricultural production and potentially push food prices higher, adding another challenge for the Indian economy. Higher food and energy prices together could affect consumer spending and, in turn, economic growth. India’s Growth Story Continues Amid Global Uncertainty The latest Moody’s revision reflects the strength of India’s domestic economic activity, even as global markets face geopolitical and energy-related challenges. The agency expects India to remain among the fastest-growing major economies, while emphasizing that external risks could influence the pace of future growth. For now, the combination of strong domestic demand, investment and manufacturing activity has helped India maintain economic momentum despite a volatile global environment. Disclaimer: GDP forecasts are estimates and can change as economic conditions, energy prices, geopolitical developments and domestic factors evolve.

Major Claim Emerges in Disha Salian Case as Lawyer Alleges Sachin Vaze Has Information Linking Her Death to Sushant Singh Rajput Case

Major Claim Emerges in Disha Salian Case as Lawyer Alleges Sachin Vaze Has Information Linking Her Death to Sushant Singh Rajput Case Mumbai: The Disha Salian death case has once again come into the spotlight following fresh claims made by advocate Nilesh Ojha, who represents Salian’s father. The allegations have emerged at a time when the case has seen renewed legal attention, with the Bombay High Court recently directing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the investigation. According to reports, Ojha has claimed that a team associated with former Mumbai Police officer Sachin Vaze approached his office and that Vaze was allegedly willing to provide information and testify in connection with the case. These claims have generated fresh discussion around the circumstances surrounding Salian’s death and its alleged connection with the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Claims About a Possible Link Disha Salian, who had worked as a celebrity manager, died in June 2020, just days before Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead. The timing of the two deaths has led to years of public speculation about whether the cases were connected. However, it is important to distinguish allegations and claims from established facts. Earlier police investigations did not establish a connection between the two deaths. The Bombay High Court’s latest intervention means the circumstances surrounding Salian’s death will now be examined through a fresh CBI investigation. Lawyer Makes Further Allegations Ojha has made several serious allegations regarding what he says Vaze knows about the case. Reports quoting the lawyer say that Vaze allegedly claimed to have knowledge of multiple killings and was prepared to disclose information as a witness. These are claims attributed to the lawyer and have not been established by a court or an investigating agency. No conclusion regarding criminal responsibility can therefore be drawn from these allegations alone. Why the Case Has Returned to the Spotlight The Disha Salian case has remained a subject of intense public and media attention since 2020. In September 2026, the Bombay High Court directed the CBI to register an FIR and investigate the circumstances surrounding Salian’s death. The court also directed Mumbai Police to hand over relevant case records to the central agency. The court’s order represents a significant development because the investigation will now be handled at the central level. The court has also stressed that individuals should not be treated as accused without sufficient evidence. Connection With Sushant Singh Rajput’s Death Sushant Singh Rajput died on June 14, 2020, several days after Salian’s death. Because of their professional association and the close timing of the deaths, speculation about a possible connection has continued for years. The latest allegations have once again brought that question into public discussion. However, whether there was any actual criminal connection between the two deaths remains a matter for investigators to establish through evidence. CBI Investigation Could Provide Answers With the CBI now directed to investigate the Disha Salian case, attention is expected to focus on the available records, witness statements, forensic evidence and other material collected during earlier investigations. The latest claims involving Sachin Vaze could become relevant if investigators formally examine them and find supporting evidence. Until then, the allegations should be treated as unverified claims rather than established facts. Bottom Line The latest statements by Disha Salian’s family’s lawyer have added another layer to a case that has remained under public scrutiny for years. The alleged willingness of Sachin Vaze to provide information and the claimed connection with the Sushant Singh Rajput case have sparked renewed debate. With the CBI investigation now underway, the focus will be on evidence and official findings. The investigation will ultimately determine whether the allegations have any factual or legal basis. Disclaimer: This article reports allegations and claims made by individuals involved in or commenting on the case. The allegations have not been independently established as facts, and guilt or criminal liability can only be determined through due legal process.
